Description
Stitchbond Membrane is a non-woven polyester fabric commonly used as a reinforcing membrane in waterproofing systems, particularly with bituminous coatings, acrylic waterproofing compounds, or liquid-applied membranes.
🧵 What Is Stitchbond Membrane?
-
Made from: 100% polyester fibers that are mechanically bonded using a “stitch bonding” process (not chemically glued).
-
Appearance: Soft, white fabric—lightweight yet strong.
-
Purpose: Acts as a reinforcing layer that improves flexibility, crack-bridging ability, and overall strength of waterproofing systems.
✅ Key Features:
-
High tensile strength and durability.
-
Excellent elongation and flexibility.
-
Chemically inert – compatible with most waterproofing products.
-
Rot-proof and resistant to biological attack.
-
Easy to handle and cut on-site.
🔧 Common Applications:
-
Roof waterproofing: Used with bitumen, rubberised or acrylic waterproofing products.
-
Flashing and joints: Reinforcement in high-movement areas like corners, pipes, and wall/roof junctions.
-
Wet areas: Bathrooms, balconies, and other moisture-prone zones.
-
Dams, canals, and ponds (when combined with liquid waterproofers).
🛠️ How It’s Used:
-
Apply a coat of waterproofing compound.
-
Embed the stitchbond membrane while the compound is still wet.
-
Apply a second coat to fully saturate the membrane and seal it in.
📐 Sizes:
-
Commonly available in 100mm, 150mm, 300mm, and 1m widths.
-
Roll lengths: typically 10m – 50m, depending on brand.
