Summit XPS Board

Description

The Summit XPS Board range is designed to deliver superior insulation in demanding building conditions. Produced from high‐density extruded polystyrene (XPS) with a closed-cell structure, these boards offer excellent thermal resistance, minimal water absorption, high compressive strength, and durability for long-term performance.

Available in various thicknesses (30 mm, 40 mm, 50 mm) and custom orders (up to 60–100 mm) with board lengths from 1.8 m to 8 m and width typically 600 mm.

Key Features & Benefits

• Rigid extruded polystyrene with closed-cell structure — excellent moisture resistance (<1% water absorption)

• High compressive strength (≥300 kPa) ensuring suitability for load-bearing underfloor or roofing assemblies.

• Thermal conductivity around 0.030 W/m·K (for typical board) giving strong R-values

• Fire classification B/B1/2 (SANS 428) — good fire safety performance for insulation board in SA context.

• Compressive Strength = 310-360 kpa
• Water Absorption = 0.5% by volume
• Coefficient of Linear Thermal Expansion = 0.049mm per m per °C
• Dimensional stability = <1.0%
• Thermal Conductivity = 0.030W/mK
• Combustibility and Flame Spread = B/B1/2/H&V/B – S1,D1 as per SANS 53501-1

Storage, Handling and Installation: General

• Store Summit XPS insulation board in original packaging, out of the sun and weather elements. Handle with care to prevent damage to edges
• Always paint Summit XPS insulation board in applications where direct or reflected sunlight will fall on it, to protect it from UV rays (which accelerate the ageing process)
• If painting, use two coats of good-quality water based matt PVA paint. The first coat should be an acrylic filler coat to cover minor surface indentations and imperfections
• If leaving it unpainted, wipe Summit XPS insulation board with a cloth soaked in a softened water solution immediately prior to installation to remove static charges from the board’s surface
